The Great Adventures of
Blueberry and Marmalade

Two little chicks. One wild Caribbean island. A friendship that changed everything.

Born late and left behind, Blueberry hatches into a world full of danger——speeding trucks, territorial hens, and humans with very bad intentions. But when she stumbles upon Marmalade, another lost chick scraping by on her own, the two form an unbreakable bond.

Together they brave the chaos of a bustling beach, outwit a would-be chicken-napper, and face their greatest test when pirates arrive in the night to raid the flock. What unfolds is a story of courage, loyalty, and the surprising power of even the smallest creatures to stand up for what is right.

Set on a sun-drenched Caribbean island, The Great Adventures of Blueberry and Marmalade is a warm, funny, and quietly moving chapter book for young readers——and for anyone who has ever rooted for the underdog, or wondered whether the chicken on their plate was someone’s friend.

Nurturing Compassion
and Courage

One Story at a Time

Blueberry and Marmalade is deeply connected to Tracey’s larger body of work, all of which is rooted in helping people see animals as the individuals they truly are and in nurturing compassion and reverence for all living beings. Through the story of two chickens struggling to find safety, freedom, friendship, and belonging, the book invites readers to see chickens not as commodities or abstractions, but as feeling beings with their own lives, relationships, fears, and hopes. It also explores interspecies kinship and the courage to speak out for what is right, even when society has normalized cruelty. While a young girl helps advocate for their freedom, the true heroes of the story are Blueberry and Marmalade themselves—centering these animals as the subjects of their own lives and stories.
